Launch the media gallery 1 playerIrene Gamble graduated with the Sutherland Class of 1953 and after working as a telephone operator, she met and married McPherson County rancher, Paul Seifer in 1958. The couple purchased property south of Sutherland so their children could attend Sutherland School.
Irene leaves a legacy of service to the community and an entrepreneurial spirit that has inspired her children, grandchildren, and extended family. Her community service has included the OPT (Organization of Parents and Teachers), TOPS (Take Off Pounds Sensibly), and two annual community trash pick-up efforts in Sutherland. She has been active in the Sutherland Senior Center and helps keep a regular Bingo game going. She enjoyed many years of volunteering at the Sutherland Care Center (now Azria Health).
Irene's entrepreneurial dreams have been realized in the formation of Seifer Farms Pasture Poultry, First Street Fitness, First Street Laundry, and apartments for rent. She has also inspired a community spirit and promoted local business interests on the part of her children and grandchildren, including The Courier-Times with Ray and Trenda Seifer, a daycare center with Susan Seifer and Connie Jenner, the Sutherland Anchor Youth Center with Muriel Clark and Susan Seifer, Seifer Construction and Allsorts/ The Mug with Steve and Jessie Seifer, the Longhorn Bar with grandson Tim and Brooke Aden, and more. She has provided space for the Sutherland Food Pantry and continues to proudly support that organization. She was one of the original contributors to the formation of the Sutherland Oregon Trail Golf Course and has contributed in time and effort to many more community projects.
